Bayern Munich has appointed Max Eberl as its new sports director, months after his dismissal from the position of sporting director at RB Leipzig. Bayern Munich announced today, Monday, that Eberl, a former player for the team, has joined the club with a contract until June 2027 and will assume his responsibilities on March 1st. Eberl (50 years old) served as the sporting director at Borussia Mönchengladbach for 14 years before joining Leipzig in 2022. He was dismissed by Leipzig in September following media speculation linking him to a move to Bayern. Bayern's Chairman, Herbert Hainer, stated: "Eberl not only has decades of experience in football management, but he also started his career with the game at Bayern Munich and turned professional here. We are convinced that he will successfully shape the future of this club." Eberl confirmed that he would approach his new position "with a lot of respect and humility," adding: "I spent my entire childhood and youth at Bayern Munich and in the city, and it is wonderful to return now in a new role at the club where everything started for me."
