Blinken: To Achieve Stability in Asia and the Pacific

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called today for achieving stability in the Asia-Pacific region and urged the world to cooperate to put an end to North Korea's actions following its latest missile test. He also called for a "just and lasting peace (to end) Russia's aggressive war on Ukraine" after a meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Jakarta, and urged Myanmar's military to end hostilities and begin dialogue.

He added, "We must maintain freedom of navigation in the South and East China Seas and preserve peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait." He condemned North Korea's latest intercontinental ballistic missile launch.

Blinken stated, "We need to cooperate to end North Korea's illegal weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile program." He noted that there was broad support observed during his meetings with Southeast Asian nations (ASEAN) to continue pressuring Myanmar's military council to end violence in the country.
