The first investigating judge in the north, Samrinda Nasar, has issued her indictment regarding the armed clashes that occurred in the town of Wadi al-Jamous in Akkar on October 18, 2021, between the Sayyid and Tartousi families due to vengeance-related motives. The incident resulted in the deaths of five members of the Tartousi family: Afeef Ghazi Tartousi, Rifi'at Ghazi Tartousi, Abdul Karim Saad Tartousi, Jaafar Ahmad Tartousi, and Khadr Muhammad Tartousi. She has sought the death penalty for the accused based on the articles stipulated in the Penal Code. All accused individuals are Lebanese.
Judge Nasar deemed that "this crime falls under the provisions of articles 335, 549, and 549/201 of the Penal Code, as well as article 72 relating to weapons and ammunition for the first defendant up to the thirty-fourth defendant, and articles 547/201 and 72 concerning the rest, thus concluding from the investigation of the facts, evidence, and law, that the actions of the aforementioned defendants, whose full identities are clear, qualify as felonies under articles 335, 549, and 549/201 of the Penal Code, and warrant their trial before the Criminal Court in North Lebanon."
It is important to note that article 549 states, "The death penalty is imposed for intentional murder if committed deliberately or as a preparation for or in facilitation of a felony or in execution thereof, or in facilitation of the escape of instigators or perpetrators of that felony, or participants in it or in order to prevent them from punishment, and against any of the criminal's ascendants or descendants."
On October 19, 2021, an altercation occurred in the Wadi al-Jamous area of Akkar between members of the Sayyid and Tartousi families, leading to several fatalities and injuries, following a previous dispute that had taken place on October 17, 2021, between members of the two families over long-standing vengeance-related reasons.
Furthermore, it was reported: "Units of the army deployed in the area intervened, worked to arrest the involved individuals, and restored order." The security situation in Wadi al-Jamous deteriorated after the death of a member of the Tartousi family, who had been injured two days prior during an exchange of gunfire between the Tartousi and Sayyid families. The area was characterized by tension and chaos, accompanied by gunfire and the burning of homes and vehicles. Reports indicated that the death toll reached seven fatalities and six injuries.
