Democratic Gathering: Not to Be Drawn into War

The "Democratic Gathering" bloc strongly condemned the "crimes against humanity being committed by the Israeli occupation against Palestinians in Gaza as well as in the West Bank," calling for "effective Arab action to stop this brutal aggression and genocide, open crossings to provide the Palestinian people with the necessities of life and resilience, and impose the departure of the occupation, halt settlement activities, and release prisoners from Israeli jails, before discussing anything else."

It continued in a statement about "closely monitoring the developments occurring on the southern border, where Israeli aggressions continue," emphasizing "the need to be vigilant and aware of the Israeli intentions aimed at destroying Lebanon, and thus the necessity of avoiding being drawn into war in the broader sense, as well as ensuring that the clashes do not exceed current limits to avert the serious risks posed by an Israeli aggression that Lebanon cannot bear the repercussions of."

The bloc announced that "in anticipation of the possibility of an Israeli aggression, it is coordinating with the Progressive Socialist Party regarding the preparations for receiving displaced individuals from Lebanese areas that may be subjected to aggression, while simultaneously working through its members to communicate with the relevant ministries, the government as a whole, and within the Parliament, to ensure the readiness of the concerned institutions and to develop necessary and actionable emergency plans should aggression occur."

In the same context, it renewed its "call to all political forces without exception to rise to the seriousness of the phase that requires exceptional responsibility in addressing all challenges, the most important of which is the election of a President for the Republic, while simultaneously activating the work of the current government, preventing vacancies in the army and security institutions, and stopping the ongoing vacancy that is affecting institutions sequentially and threatening the existence of the state as a whole in light of the serious current challenges."
