Saudi Al Hilal has become the owner of the longest winning streak in football history with 28 consecutive victories in official tournaments, according to the Guinness World Records. This achievement came after Al Hilal defeated the Saudi club Al Ittihad 2-0 in the return leg of the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League 2023-2024 at the "Jawhara" stadium, progressing with a total score of 4-0 over two matches, and qualifying for the semi-finals of the Asian tournament. Al Hilal's victory broke the record held by the Welsh club The New Saints, achieved in 2016.
Here is the list of clubs with the longest winning streaks in history:
1. Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia) - 2024 (28 wins).
2. The New Saints (Wales) - 2016 (27 wins).
3. Ajax (Netherlands) - 1971-1972 (26 wins).
4. Ajax (Netherlands) - 1955 (25 wins).
5. Coritiba (Brazil) - 2011 (24 wins).
6. Bayern Munich (Germany) - 2020 (23 wins).
7. Real Madrid (Spain) - 2014 (22 wins).

Fahad bin Nafel, the president of Al Hilal, promised new achievements after the team set a historic record. He wrote on his X (Twitter) account early Wednesday: "Al Hilal in 'Guinness', another record for the Kingdom, and there is more to come; our goal is to achieve more accomplishments for the homeland and Al Hilal." He added: "Congratulations to our champions and our fans; your support and solidarity—after God's grace—are the reason for this journey which we aim to conclude by making you happy through podiums of gold."
This places Al Hilal on a fiery collision course with Al Ain from the UAE, which eliminated Al Nassr through penalties in the quarter-finals, set for the semi-finals of the Champions League on April 16 and April 23.
It is noteworthy that "The Leader" is at the top of the Saudi Professional League table with 65 points, surpassing Al Nassr by 12 points after 23 rounds.
