Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz appointed Faisal bin Saud Al-Majfal as the Kingdom's ambassador to the Syrian Arab Republic after nearly 12 years since the closure of the Saudi embassy in Damascus. Ambassador Faisal bin Saud Al-Majfal expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammad bin Salman, for their royal trust in appointing him as ambassador to Syria.
The Syrian government announced the resumption of its diplomatic work in Saudi Arabia on May 9, 2023, and on October 1, 2023, the Syrian embassy in Riyadh was reopened. Last May, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Miqdad stated following his meeting with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan, "We have the decision from the top leaderships in both Syria and Saudi Arabia to move forward, with no turning back."
