The World Meteorological Organization confirmed today that Asia was "the region most impacted by climate-related disasters" in 2023, with floods and storms leading to casualties and negative economic repercussions. The organization's Secretary-General, Celeste Saulo, stated in a report from the United Nations-affiliated organization, "2023 was the hottest year ever recorded for many countries in the region, alongside experiencing a barrage of extreme conditions ranging from droughts and heatwaves to floods and storms. Climate change has increased the frequency and severity of these phenomena, leaving profound effects on communities and economies, and critically, on human lives and the environment we live in."
