Baghdad Governor Abdul Muttalib Al-Alawi announced today, Wednesday, a plan to develop the areas east of the canal at a cost of 200 billion dinars. The governorate stated in a press release that Al-Alawi chaired a large meeting that included officials and specialists from Baghdad, heads of relevant departments, a service and engineering effort team, a representative from the Prime Minister's Office, as well as the Baghdad Municipality.
According to the statement, the governor confirmed that the purpose of the meeting was to establish a plan for development projects in the Eastern Canal area of Baghdad, based on the financial allocations set aside in last year's budget amounting to 200 billion dinars. This includes providing essential services such as water, rainwater drainage systems, sewage, street paving, electricity, healthcare, and schools.
Al-Alawi noted that the meeting resulted in a series of conclusions whereby the joint teams from the attending parties will work on preparing a list of projects to be executed along with their estimated costs, in order to present them to the Baghdad Provincial Council for discussion and approval. He pointed out that if approved, it will be sent to the Ministry of Planning for inclusion and implementation of these projects to enhance the service situation in the eastern canal areas.
