A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department confirmed that the attacks carried out by Israelis on humanitarian aid shipments headed to Gaza are "unacceptable." Spokesperson Matthew Miller urged Israel to prevent further attacks on aid convoys bound for Gaza after Israeli settlers targeted a shipment coming from Jordan. Miller also described Hamas's actions to redirect aid as "unacceptable."
The Gaza Strip is facing famine, suffering from a severe Israeli blockade since October 7, with most of the population displaced and in urgent need of food assistance. According to Palestinian sources, the region requires the daily entry of a thousand aid trucks to meet the needs of the population. However, despite air drops from several countries to Gaza, relief organizations insist that there is no alternative to using land routes to deliver the necessary aid to the region to prevent imminent starvation.
Additionally, the U.S. State Department noted that there has been no progress in reaching an agreement between Israel and Hamas. Regarding normalization with Saudi Arabia, the State Department stated that Saudi Arabia is clear about normalizing relations with Israel: "First, there’s the need for calm in Gaza, followed by a pathway to a two-state solution."
