Hussein Omar Hussein Nasr, known as "Libby of the Amazon," has passed away due to a tragic car accident in Libya. Hussein's story began in 1995 when he left Libya for Germany to work as a mechanic on a farm. He later became involved with a Brazilian girl, who eventually returned to her country. In 2012, he decided to follow her and spent about a year moving between cities in search of her until he lost hope of finding her, ran out of money, and lost his personal documents.
Later, Hussein was beaten by a Brazilian police officer, prompting him to walk across Brazil until he reached the edge of a jungle near the city of Manaus in the northern part of the country, which is located in the midst of the Amazon rainforest, accessible only by boat or plane due to its isolation. He then lived there for around 7 years like a primitive man, eating fruits from the forest, hunting animals for meat, and drinking from rivers and streams.
In 2019, amid the fires in the Amazon rainforest, Brazilian police found Hussein in the Manaus jungle. Initially, they believed he was a fugitive, but after learning his story, they contacted the Libyan embassy in Brasilia, which quickly intervened to repatriate him to his homeland. Hussein's brother had previously posted a video from his residence in Germany, recounting parts of the story and indicating that he thought his brother had died after losing contact with him.
