Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, during his meeting today, Thursday, with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his accompanying delegation, pointed out that "what the world is witnessing today proves that the issues we defended and for which we paid a price were correct, and that our policies were sound." He indicated that "the international picture has become clearer in light of the developments and changes occurring in the world, which reinforces our confidence in the path we are following."
President Assad discussed with Abdollahian bilateral relations, the situation in the region, and efforts related to the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland, in addition to the topic of the Turkish withdrawal from Syrian territories, emphasizing that this withdrawal is a necessary condition for restoring normal relations between Damascus and Ankara. He noted that "a healthy relationship between Iran and Arab countries contributes to the stability and prosperity of the region."
For his part, Abdollahian affirmed respect for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing the "importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Syria and Iran," and his country's commitment to implementing the agreements signed during President Ebrahim Raisi's visit to Syria.
Abdollahian arrived in Damascus on Wednesday, coming from Tehran at the head of a high-level delegation, where he met with Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous to discuss mechanisms for following up on the implementation of agreements and understandings reached during President Raisi's visit to Syria, as well as ways to enhance bilateral relations in various fields for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples.
