The unusual heavy snowfall that began last Wednesday resulted in the suspension of some train services and the closure of schools in China. A subway train collided from behind amidst heavy snow in the Chinese capital, Beijing, resulting in 515 injuries and transporting them to a local hospital for treatment, including 102 who suffered bone fractures, according to authorities on Friday.
The incident occurred Thursday evening in a mountainous area - above ground - west of Beijing on the Changping Line, which is part of the national subway network. The slippery tracks caused automatic braking in the main train. The Changping transportation authority stated in a post on its social media account on Friday that a second train, following the main train, slipped and the driver could not activate the brakes in time.
Emergency medical personnel, police, and transport authorities arrived at the scene and evacuated all passengers. The authority reported that 25 passengers were under observation, while 67 remained in the hospital as of Friday morning.
