The Parliamentary Integrity Committee in Iraq commented today, Friday, on the increasing number of corruption and bribery cases detected by the Integrity Commission among officers. Committee member Gharib Askar stated to "Baghdad Today" that "the Integrity Commission is making significant efforts in addressing corruption and bribery across various state institutions. This effort is not limited to officers alone, but there have been cases revealed in the past few days indicating a noticeable rise. The commission's efforts encompass all institutions, and it is achieving considerable accomplishments."
He emphasized that "the detection of some corruption cases involving officers does not tarnish the reputation of the military and security institution as these are individual cases. Moreover, police affairs and other oversight bodies within security and military institutions should monitor the work of officers to limit the exploitation of positions for personal gain."
Yesterday, the Integrity Commission announced the arrest of a colonel in Kirkuk who accepted a bribe from a complainant in exchange for resolving a ongoing case related to him. This marks the second case in which the commission detained a colonel in the Kirkuk police caught in the act of accepting a bribe.
