A petroleum ship ran aground off the coast of Safaga in the Red Sea, southern Egypt. Egyptian authorities have decided to form a committee to assess the damage. Hassan Al-Tayyeb, founder of the Environmental Protection and Marine Rescue Association, informed "Al Arabiya.net" that he received a report about one of the ships operating in petroleum services running aground in a rocky area facing the city of Safaga on Monday. He added that the ship flies the flag of a Caribbean country and is approximately 78 meters long, pointing out that the grounding was caused by strong winds. The grounding led to a collision with a rock, resulting in water leaking into the engine rooms. He revealed that the location of the grounding is far from coral reef areas and tourist spots. Meanwhile, authorities have decided to form a committee from the Red Sea Protectorates to assess the damage caused by the grounding of the ship.
