Ben Gvir: Hamas's Decision Will Not Halt the Invasion of Rafah

Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir downplayed Hamas's decision to accept the Egyptian-Qatari proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, asserting that this will not stop the military operation in Rafah. Ben Gvir stated in a post on the "X" platform that "Hamas's maneuvers and tricks have only one response: an immediate order to occupy Rafah and increase military pressure until Hamas is defeated."

Israeli Army Radio reported that security officials indicated that preparations for the military operation in Rafah are ongoing as planned, with no changes to the operational readiness. Israeli media revealed on Monday that the operation in Rafah, southern Gaza, was unanimously approved by the Israeli cabinet.

Yediot Ahronot newspaper mentioned that the war cabinet approved the operation in Rafah unanimously last night, noting that the operation is expected to commence within a few days. The newspaper added that once the evacuation of residents begins, the operation is anticipated to start within a few days.

On another note, the newspaper reported that Israel might halt the invasion of Rafah should Hamas agree to a prisoner exchange deal. An Israeli official told the newspaper, "If Hamas agrees to a prisoner exchange deal, it might be possible to stop the operation in Rafah."

Hamas announced on Monday its acceptance of the Egyptian-Qatari proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from the movement. Hamas added that in light of recent communications with the mediators in Egypt and Qatar, a Hamas delegation will head to Cairo tomorrow (Tuesday) to continue discussions.
