Former president of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, hoped that "we do not get involved in the war that broke out with Israel in October 2023." He stated, "My position is that we should not forget Lebanon's history with Israeli attacks against it, and until the decision of war and peace is in the hands of the state, Hezbollah defends Lebanon."
In an interview hosted by the Najjar Foundation for Culture and Freedom in Ashrafieh, Jumblatt pointed out that "Speaker of the House Nabih Berri is a conduit between U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein and Hezbollah, conveying messages and responses." He considered that the MPs who met Hochstein in Washington "are wasting their time."
In response to a question, Jumblatt clarified that “French President Emmanuel Macron's concern is to separate Lebanon's path from Gaza, if possible, and I did not hear anything from him regarding the presidency” during his visit to Paris.
Additionally, Jumblatt stressed that "we should not venture to propose an alternative to what remains of the Taif Agreement, especially when we hear voices advocating for federalism."
In another context, Jumblatt confirmed that "the May 17 Agreement made us an Israeli protectorate and linked us to Israel, and I am against that," noting that "maritime demarcation has nothing to do with the matter."
