British Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton will begin their activities with their first tour of the new year next month with a "secret" overseas trip. In their quest to start the new year with a "renewed focus" on the military, it is rumored that the first trip of the Prince and Princess of Wales will be to honor the British armed forces in a foreign country, according to the British newspaper "Daily Express."
Despite planning the trip, it has remained "secret," with the destination of William and Kate not disclosed for security reasons. Their focus on the military comes after King Charles III appointed them to new military roles following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, as reported by the British newspaper "Mirror." In 2023, the Prince of Wales assumed the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the "Mercian" Regiment and the Royal Air Force and was appointed Honorary Air Commodore of the Royal Air Force base.
Meanwhile, Princess Kate has been appointed as the Honorary Commander of the Fleet Air Arm and the First Lady Master of the Queen's Guard. Last year, the heir to the throne made an unannounced visit to Poland, where he met with British and Polish troops assisting Ukraine in the war effort against Russia. William went to military bases in Rzeszów in southeastern Poland near the Ukrainian border, where the Royal Artillery and other British units work with Western allies to train Ukrainians and direct weapons to Ukrainian forces.
During that visit, the British heir praised the soldiers for "defending our freedoms," telling British forces: "Everyone back home fully supports you." During his visit to an air defense base near the Ukrainian border, Prince William said: "Thank you for hosting me today. I just wanted to come here in person to say thank you for all that you do." He added: "You are doing really important work here, and defending our freedoms is truly vital; everyone back home fully supports you," emphasizing that "everything you are doing with the Poles to provide safety is truly important. I am pleased to meet you and wish you good luck."
