The President of the Arab Parliament, Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoomi, emphasized on World Press Freedom Day the "vital and pioneering role of journalism in our Arab societies as a free voice reflecting the facts." He stressed the need to provide mechanisms that ensure the free expression of opinions through media and communication, adhering to transparency and neutrality, and avoiding misleading news, all to establish purposeful Arab media.
He stated in a statement: "The brutal Israeli war on Gaza has highlighted the importance of journalistic and media work in all its forms and across various platforms, in confronting the false Israeli narrative and revealing the true face of the Israeli occupation and its racist practices."
He stressed the necessity of formulating a comprehensive system that protects Arab countries from external media invasion and the dissemination of extremist ideas that serve foreign agendas aimed at spreading a culture that contradicts the customs, traditions, and teachings of Islam in Arab societies. He underscored the pioneering role of Arab journalism in enhancing the spirit of joint Arab action and unity of purpose among Arab nations and peoples, serving as a bulwark against the malicious, systematic attempts to disrupt Arab unity.
He saluted "those working in journalism, especially those in conflict and crisis zones, for the challenges and dangers they face in conveying reality," commending "the national role of Arab journalism in defending Arab issues."
