Controversial billionaire Elon Musk is always in the news with new developments. A Brazilian Supreme Court judge ordered an investigation into Musk on Sunday after he was accused by the owner of the platform X of "betraying the constitution." In a judicial memo reviewed by AFP, Judge Alexandre de Moraes instructed the investigation into Musk for allegedly "exploiting the X platform for criminal purposes."
The judge also warned X against disobeying any court orders, including by reactivating any account that the Supreme Court ordered to be blocked, threatening the platform with fines of 100,000 Brazilian reais (about 18,300 euros) for each reactivated account. The judge emphasized in the memo issued on Sunday that "social networks are not lawless areas!"
This action came in response to a series of attacks launched by the owner of X against the judge, starting Saturday evening. Musk called for "the judge's resignation or removal" for issuing rulings that led to the closure of suspicious accounts on social media. The billionaire, who also owns Tesla and SpaceX, stated that his companies could potentially lose all their revenue in Brazil and may have to close their offices there, adding that "principles are more important than profit." The judge justified the account closures by stating that those accounts were spreading misleading information. Additionally, Musk resumed his attacks on the judge on Sunday, accusing him of repeatedly betraying the Brazilian constitution and its people, while continuing to call for the judge's resignation or removal.
