A delegation from the "Strong Republic" bloc visited the Australian Ambassador to Lebanon, Andrew Barnes, on Thursday at the embassy in Beirut. The delegation included MPs Ziad Hawat and Jihad Bigradouni, accompanied by the former Minister and head of the external relations department of the Lebanese Forces Party, Richard Keyomjian, and Mark Saad from the department. The delegation handed the ambassador a petition addressed to the member states of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which emphasizes and commends the position of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the necessity of forming an international fact-finding committee regarding the crime of the Beirut port explosion on August 4, 2020. The petition calls on member states to support the demands of the Lebanese people and expedite the establishment of this committee. It carries 291 signatures from Lebanese, international, and diaspora MPs, humanitarian and rights organizations, as well as families of the victims and affected individuals. The delegation urged the Australian ambassador to convey this urgent demand of the Lebanese people to his government and to support Lebanon and its people in achieving this and uncovering the truth in this case, as well as releasing the obstructed justice in Lebanon.
