Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, in a television interview, stated that the United States, at the forefront of the West, "benefits from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and watches the escalating chaos from the sidelines." In response to a question about the U.S. role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, he said: "When we say America, we mean the entire West, as it is completely under U.S. control. America benefits from any conflict, then steps aside and watches the increasing chaos, waiting for the moment when it can deliver the decisive blow." He emphasized that Americans profit from any conflict. According to President Assad, U.S. policy is based on the principle of "divide and conquer." He stated: "This is their way of control, and it is a form of extortion. Such behavior is immoral. America turns any conflict into a serious chronic disease like diabetes or cancer. Typically, it is the warring nations that pay the price of the conflict."
