The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's naval forces, Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri, issued a stern warning to Western countries regarding the detention of Iranian oil or oil tankers anywhere in the world. Tangsiri recalled a historical period in Iran and how leaders acted at that time, stating: "During the Shah's era, the government wanted to sell its oil using Italian oil tankers, but on the way, they were seized by Britain. The king of Iran requested that they take one tanker and release two in return after the British refused, and the king gifted them two in exchange for the final tanker." He emphasized, "However, today, if they steal our oil or seize our tanker anywhere in the world, we will respond in kind."
