Death of the Composer of Iconic Disney Songs at 95

American composer Richard Sherman, known for his melodies in famous Disney films such as "Mary Poppins" and "The Jungle Book," passed away on Saturday at the age of 95, as announced by the studios. Disney studios reported that Sherman died in Beverly Hills after an age-related illness. Along with his brother Robert, who passed away in 2012, Sherman formed a prolific songwriting duo for Disney from 1960 to 1973, contributing to more than 200 songs for 27 films and about twenty television productions. The company described Richard Sherman as a "key member" of the "creative talent circle" of its founder, Walt Disney. Current Disney CEO Bob Iger stated in a message, "We will be forever grateful for the mark Richard left on the world." Among the duo's most notable works is "Chim Chim Cher-ee" from the 1964 film "Mary Poppins," which won an Oscar. Other significant songs they created include "It's a Small World" and "I Wanna Be Like You" from "The Jungle Book."
