The Al-Ahli Youth team won the title of the first edition of the UAE-Qatar Super Shield in football after defeating their Qatari counterpart, Al-Duhail, with a score of 2-1 this evening at Rashid Stadium in Dubai. The awarding ceremony took place after the match, attended by Abdullah Nasser Al-Junaibi, President of the UAE Professional League, Talal Al-Shanqiti, President of Al-Ahli Youth Football Company, Khalifa Khames Al-Sulaiti, Vice Chairman of Al-Duhail Sports Club, and Nasser Abdullah Al-Hajri, CEO of Marketing at Aspire.
Both teams exchanged offensive attempts that posed threats to the goals until Brazilian player Philippe Coutinho put Al-Duhail ahead with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area in the 36th minute. The players of Al-Ahli Youth tried to bounce back with coordinated attacks that failed to find success against the Qatari goal.
Serbian player Luka Milevovic of Al-Ahli Youth waited until the second half to score the equalizer with a remarkable header following a cross from his teammate Badr Nasser in the 55th minute. The final minutes of the match saw intense offensive attempts from both teams to decide the result until Brazilian striker Igor Jesus secured victory for Al-Ahli Youth with a deceptive header after a set piece executed by player Yahya Al-Ghasani in the 93rd minute.
