A statement was issued by Prime Minister Najib Mikati: "Lebanon welcomes the issuance of a resolution by the United Nations Security Council this evening extending the mandate of the international troops operating in southern Lebanon, which contributes to enhancing security and stability. The extension decision included a key provision demanded by Lebanon, concerning the operations of "UNIFIL" 'in coordination with the Lebanese government according to the agreement of the headquarters,' which in itself represents a source of relief. We thank many countries and Lebanon's friends for understanding the Lebanese remarks. On this occasion, we reaffirm Lebanon's commitment to UN Resolution 1701 and respect for all other international resolutions, and we renew our call for Israel to withdraw from the Lebanese territories it continues to occupy in the Shebaa Farms, Kfarshuba Hills, and the Mari area, as well as from all disputed border points located within Lebanese territory. We also demand pressure on Israel to stop its ongoing violations of Lebanese sovereignty on land, at sea, and in the air." He added: "I extend my appreciation to Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Bou Habib, who led tireless diplomatic efforts over several days. I also commend the Lebanese team that supported the minister's work in the Security Council meetings for their diligent efforts and continuous follow-up. What has been achieved is a fundamental step to safeguard Lebanon's rights and sovereignty, and we will continue to work to accomplish everything required in this regard."
