Vietnam Signs $7.8 Billion Deal to Purchase Boeing Aircraft

The White House announced on Monday that the value of a deal made by Vietnam Airlines to purchase 50 Boeing 737 Max aircraft from the American company is $7.8 billion. The statement confirmed the deal's value reported by Reuters yesterday, citing a source. Reuters also previously noted Boeing's plans to sell the aircraft to Vietnam Airlines. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Vietnam was the fifth fastest-growing aviation market in the world in 2022, following the lifting of travel restrictions imposed to combat the coronavirus. The association predicts that Vietnam will provide air transport services to 150 million passengers by 2035. Boeing also made a deal with competing airline VietJet to sell 200 737 Max aircraft. U.S. President Joe Biden is currently visiting the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, where senior Boeing executives are taking the opportunity to establish business partnerships.
