Wahhab: The Army Commander is Advancing for the Presidency

The head of the Arab Unification Party, Wiam Wahhab, stated that "Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad's warning about the collapse of state institutions is important and could stir stagnant presidential waters." He noted that "the Saudis have begun to engage the French, and communication has taken place between French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian and Prince Mohammed bin Salman," adding that the Saudi position still rejects the head of the Marada Movement, Suleiman Frangieh. Wahhab considered that "the dangerous aspect of the presidency issue is that no one wants to pay attention to Lebanon."

In an interview with Lebanese television, Wahhab mentioned that "the Qataris will provide financial support, but it is important that Qatar's share does not turn into bribes distributed among politicians, and the problem is that everyone is willing to receive money." He revealed that "Army Commander Joseph Aoun is advancing for the presidency, and serious negotiations are taking place between Hezbollah and the army commander, with significant positive progress in talks regarding the presidency. We have reached a strong conclusion with MP Gebran Bassil, and we may reach the election of a president from now until the New Year," explaining that "if there is no third option, we are with Suleiman Frangieh."

Regarding the situation in Sweida, Wahhab affirmed that "Sweida has not turned against Damascus; what is happening there is not an overturn but rather a situation, and the poor of Syria are much nobler than its corrupt rich. The Druze of Sweida are my kin, and it is my duty to protect them." He added, "When Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri goes with his sons to struggle against Hezbollah and Iran, I will follow him," emphasizing that there is no presence of Iran and the party in Sweida.

Wahhab also disclosed that "Syria is heading towards significant developments beyond our expectations, which could be positive, and there will be a strong position regarding what is happening." He observed that "the Americans have placed Syria on their agenda in response to the Ukrainian war, and everyone is preparing for this new situation; the battles and their outcomes will determine where things will go, which will increase migration to Lebanon and strain the country under the pressure of displacement. What happens in Syria may extend to Lebanon."
