Severe Solar Storm Hits Earth: What Are Its Damages?

For the first time in two decades, a level five geomagnetic storm struck Earth on Friday evening, classified as "severe," marking the first occurrence since 2003, according to an American agency. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that this storm is due to a series of coronal mass ejections from the sun reaching Earth. It also stated that global positioning systems (GPS), power grids, spacecraft, satellite navigation, and other technologies may be affected. The agency expects the storm to continue over the weekend as more emissions arrive. The last event of this kind that reached level five was in October 2003, which was referred to as the "Halloween solar storms."
