In a repetition of last year's incident involving Moroccan child Rayan, who tragically died in a well, an Egyptian farmer has fallen into a groundwater well, 23 meters deep, in the desert area west of Minya Center.
The security and executive authorities in Minya have intensified their efforts to rescue the farmer who fell into the well in recent hours. Major General Mohamed Mustafa Dabesh, the director of Minya Security, reported receiving a notification from the residents of Hamid Azagah village, part of the Toukh al-Khail village in Minya Center, regarding the incident.
He continued that civil protection, ambulance, and police vehicles, along with local unit loaders, were dispatched to the scene and found that a 30-year-old farmer, residing in Hamid Azagah, had fallen into a non-functional groundwater well near the western desert road while walking on the desert land on Tuesday evening. Eyewitnesses reported that the young man communicated with his family after falling and informed them of the incident, mentioning he had a broken arm.
He explained that the residents contacted the authorities after their attempts to rescue the young man failed. Additionally, it was noted that people were in touch with the young man for six hours before they lost communication with him.
Heavy machinery has gathered at the report site in an attempt to excavate around the well to extract the young man, either alive or deceased, despite facing difficulties due to rocky ground. Local residents mentioned that the missing person belongs to one of the large Arab tribes west of Minya, is married, and has three children. A report on the incident has been filed, and the Public Prosecution has taken over the investigations.
