South Korea: First Strike by Samsung Workers

Workers at the tech giant "Samsung Electronics" in South Korea organized the company's first-ever strike on Friday. Samsung Electronics is one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world and is also one of the few companies globally producing advanced memory chips used in generative artificial intelligence, including sophisticated AI devices. The company, the largest memory chip producer in the world, has been in negotiations with the union over wages since January, but both sides have failed to reach agreements. The company stated in a released statement that "there will be no impact on production and business activities." The strike is being participated in by employees at the group's headquarters rather than workers on production lines, and it will last for one day. This marks the first strike by workers of the tech giant. About ten workers staged a protest outside Samsung's main office in Seoul on Friday, chanting "Respect the workers!"
