Turkish Minister Reveals Reason for Istanbul Residential Building Collapse

Turkish Minister of Environment and Urban Planning, Mehmet Özhaseki, revealed through the "X" platform the reason for the collapse of a residential building in Istanbul, stating: "Failure to comply with technical standards during its construction." He pointed out that the building was constructed in 1988, and then illegal additional floors were added later. The minister added: "According to preliminary inspection results, the building was constructed 36 years ago, but subsequently, one and a half floors were added illegally."

It is noted that there were commercial warehouses on the ground floor of the building. The minister mentioned that the building was not compliant with construction standards and architectural engineering from the beginning—it was built using sea sand. He also noted that the superstructure exacerbated the stability of the building.
