"The Kataeb Party": A Political Decision is Needed to Stabilize the Country

The Kataeb Political Bureau held a meeting chaired by party leader MP Sami Gemayel. After reviewing the developments of recent days and the serious regional escalation, it issued the following statement: "With the significant escalation the region has witnessed in recent days, Lebanon finds itself in a tug-of-war game that places its fate at stake while being deprived of decision-making power and lacking sovereignty due to Hezbollah's insistence on participating in the resistance scheme, the primary goal of which is its own interests that have nothing to do with Palestine or its people. What is required today, more than ever, is an awareness of the gravity of this phase and preventing any attempts to drag the country and its people into a catastrophe from which no one will emerge unscathed. The remnants of the authority, instead of being preoccupied with sessions that undermine democratic life and with outdated consultations, must strive to regain their decision-making power and authority and return to the Lebanese their hijacked country.

2- The Political Bureau extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the martyr Pascal Suleiman. While it appreciates the swift action of the security forces, which managed to track down and arrest some of the criminals, it believes this crime could have been averted with a political decision to control the borders, which is absent due to the state's abdication of its responsibilities and the surrender of the country's fate to gangs and militias that operate freely without accountability.

3- The Political Bureau regrets the inflammatory and sectarian remarks made by the superior Jaafari Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Qabalan in his Eid al-Fitr sermon, before he retracts to reassure Christians that there is no alternative to them! In this context, the Kataeb Party points out that it is one of the founders of this country, and its struggle has always been for all Lebanese from all sects without discrimination. Christians do not need anyone to reassure them, as the constitution suffices to reassure everyone, and coexistence is based on equality in duties and rights, respecting others' history, and accepting differing opinions. This means that we must all stand against anything that threatens this coexistence, starting with arms in the hands of one group over another, continuous accusations of treason, monopolizing major decisions, and attempting to impose one party's will over another."
