A local police officer told Reuters via phone that at least nine people were killed and several others were injured in an explosion at a factory in the Nagpur area of Maharashtra, India, on Sunday morning. The officer added that the explosion occurred around 8:30 AM local time (03:00 GMT) at a factory operated by Solar Industries India. The factory manufactures industrial and military explosives, as well as propellants and warheads for the Indian defense sector, according to the Solar Industries website. Police are still investigating the cause of the explosion, which took place in the packing area of the factory. Calls to a phone number listed on the company's website went unanswered, and there was no response to emails sent to the company.
