Anticipated Meeting Between the U.S. President and the King of Jordan

U.S. President Joe Biden will meet with Jordan’s King Abdullah II at the White House on Monday, as the prospects for a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip dwindle, with Hamas and Israeli officials exchanging accusations regarding the stalemate. A Jordanian diplomat stated that "the meeting on Monday between Biden and King Abdullah II is not a formal bilateral meeting, but rather a special and informal one." The last meeting between Biden and King Abdullah at the White House took place in February, where they discussed a range of difficult issues, including the impending Israeli ground assault in southern Gaza and the threat of a humanitarian disaster for Palestinian civilians. The White House noted that Biden last spoke with Netanyahu on April 28, "and reaffirmed his clear position" regarding the potential invasion of the border city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
