"Foreign Affairs" Listens to Bouhabib on Results of His Visit to Syria

The Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Committee convened this morning, Wednesday, in the Parliament under the chairmanship of MP Fadi Allam and with the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in the caretaker government, Abdullah Bouhabib, along with many MPs. Allam stated after the session: "The Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Committee met with the Foreign Minister. The meeting's purpose was related to two points: the first pertains to his visit to Syria after being tasked with heading the committee related to the displacement issue. He updated us on the meetings held as a Lebanese delegation with the Syrian Foreign Ministry, the United Nations, and the Refugee Agency. The minister expressed his full commitment to following up on this file and noted the positive outlook from the Syrian side regarding finding a solution to the displacement issue."

He added: "We also discussed the procedures that should be followed and the facilitation measures the Syrian government is undertaking to ease the return of displaced persons to Syria. We learned about the committees that will be formed to accompany this necessary process for facilitating returns. The second point was related to the situation in Gaza today and the hostile and criminal acts being witnessed in Gaza by the Israeli enemy. We briefed him on the atmospheres of meetings he is holding with most of the ambassadors present in Lebanon, and he affirmed that Lebanon does not want war and calls in all its meetings for Israel to cease its aggression against Lebanon; this is the official Lebanese stance. At the same time, there is emphasis from the Lebanese Foreign Ministry on the two-state solution, as agreed upon at the Beirut Summit in 2002. Questions were raised regarding the situation of "UNIFIL," and we confirmed that it is performing its natural role in Lebanon, with complete coordination between it and the Lebanese Army. The topic of management in the Foreign Ministry was also discussed, concerning transfers in the third category and the criteria that were adopted."
