The German Ministry for Development announced today, Tuesday, that Germany has decided to release aid amounting to 71 million euros (75.80 million dollars) as part of an ongoing review of its support for Palestinians and has pledged an additional 20 million euros in new funding. The ministry stated: "Due to the fragile situation in the region, the review has not yet been fully completed." However, it noted that the review focused on continuing support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), given the needs of people in the Gaza Strip and the increasingly unstable situation in neighboring countries. A total amount of 91 million euros will be allocated to provide essential services for the displaced in Gaza and assist Palestinian refugees in Jordan. The ministry stated that the activities of UNRWA, funded by Germany, will focus on the ongoing supply of drinking water, as well as hygiene and sanitation in emergency shelters for the displaced in Gaza. Germany temporarily suspended its development aid to the Palestinian territories following the attack launched by fighters from the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Israel on October 7, pending a review.
