Geagea: What is the Point of a Dialogue Whose Outcome is Already Known?

Lebanese Forces Party leader Samir Geagea noted today, Tuesday, that "Lebanese ears have been deafened lately by calls from some for dialogue, then dialogue, then dialogue, at a time when everyone knows that the proponents of these repeated calls have never been real dialogue partners. The greatest evidence of this is their insistence on their illegal and illegitimate status, despite the persistent demands from the majority of Lebanese for a solution to this situation, but to no avail." He also reminded everyone "not to overlook the outcome of dozens of dialogue tables held in the last 15 years, which all resulted in nothing." As for the latest accomplishments of the dialogue group, it was the Baabda dialogue table which issued the "Baabda Declaration" in 2012, at which point they remarked, "Go drink your poison," and therefore, if we set aside the fact that the resisting group is not in fact made up of dialogue partners, and returned to their repeated demands these days, we truly do not know what dialogue they are talking about."

Geagea asked, "Isn't it natural and logical that this group talks about dialogue to reach a consensus candidate for the presidency? After 8 months of presidential vacuum, how can they insist on a dialogue to reach a consensus candidate while repeatedly confirming that their first, second, and last candidate is former minister Sleiman Frangieh? So what is the point of a dialogue whose outcome is already known?" He emphasized the need "not to waste time now with empty calls for dialogue, and the necessity of going to elect a president of the republic, by calling for an open electoral session with consecutive rounds, without disrupting the elections after the first round as the resisting team has been doing for the past eight months." He also affirmed the importance of keeping up with intellectual and cultural developments for progress in life, and working towards the Lebanese cause.

Geagea's statements came during a meeting organized by the schools department of the Lebanese Forces Party’s student section in Maarab, in the presence of the party's Secretary General Imad Mkrzel, Head of the Political Education Department Charbel Eid, Head of the Party Inspection Committee Edgar Maroun, Head of the Students’ Affairs Department Abdo Imad and members of his office, Head of the Schools Department John Shmeiroun and members of his office, Central Council members Toni Bader and Jimmy Bassousi, along with former heads of the department and student representatives from various sectors. In conclusion, Geagea addressed the political, social, and cultural concerns of the students.
