Amidst the rising prospect of a military solution again at the southern borders, the hope for a parliamentary resolution to remove the presidential election from the paralysis bottleneck has decreased. The latest evidence of this comes with the efforts of the "Moderation" parliamentary bloc. After this initiative gained momentum from Ain al-Tineh over the past two weeks, it has now returned to the second presidency office exhausted from the Shiite duo's objections.
According to information from "Nidaa al-Watan" from accompanying parliamentary sources, the flaw in the "Moderation" initiative arose from a misunderstanding between Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Hezbollah. It was clarified that Berri did not read the signals he received from the party regarding the election properly, leading him to believe there was a "green light" from the suburbs to proceed with the presidential elections. However, it soon became clear that Hezbollah was not yet ready to complete these elections. This explains Ain al-Tineh's swift move to curb its support for "Moderation."
Yesterday's information indicated that when President Berri meets the "Moderation" delegation today, he will provide feedback on the bloc's initiative, particularly regarding the call for consultations without the speaker and the call for open sessions after the dialogue, according to "Nidaa al-Watan." In contrast, the parliamentary delegation will express its viewpoints, presenting the results of its communications. The information speculated that the delegation would tell Berri that their communication with the party was encouraged by Berri himself, but the party was not in a position to move forward with the initiative.
