The record label for the late Irish singer and activist Sinéad O'Connor has demanded that former U.S. President Donald Trump stop using her music at political rallies, joining a list of artists who have condemned Trump, including Taylor Swift and Rihanna.
The company stated that O'Connor, known for her outspoken views on religion, sex, feminism, and wars, would feel "disgusted, hurt, and insulted" by the distortion of her art in this way by someone she referred to as "the biblical devil." Chrysalis Records, alongside the entity managing the singer's estate, expressed their "anger" over the use of her hit song from 1990, "Nothing Compares 2 U," in Trump's political rallies, as he is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination in the presidential elections.
In a statement made on behalf of the singer who passed away at the age of 56 in July, they noted, "It is well-known that Sinéad O'Connor lived her life according to strict moral codes distinguished by honesty, kindness, fairness, and respect toward her fellow human beings." They added, "As guardians of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his aides cease using her music immediately."
Many artists, or their representatives, have similarly objected to the use of their music at Trump events over the years, including the late American singer and guitarist Tom Petty, British singer-songwriter Adele, and the rock band R.E.M.
