French Politician Strikes Woman After Being Egged (Video)

Demonstrators pelted the far-right French leader Éric Zemmour with eggs during an election visit to the island of Corsica on Saturday. Zemmour was in the city of Ajaccio as part of his campaign for the European elections when about 15 people began chanting against him. A police source stated, "Water and eggs were thrown at him, and a woman attempted to push him," adding that the incident lasted for a short time. The newspaper "Corse Matin" published a video showing Zemmour trying to hit a woman.

A member of Zemmour's entourage said that the footage depicts "a purely defensive reaction." He added, "She surprised him from behind, and he didn't know what she was holding, whether it was an egg, a fist, or a knife."

Ajaccio's prosecutor Nicolas Septe stated that an investigation has been opened. For his part, Zemmour said on platform "X": "This is the true face of the extreme left." He continued, "Small violent groups really want us to die." Zemmour, who has been convicted multiple times for inciting racial hatred, continued his election tour, followed by opponents under the supervision of riot police. Opinion polls indicate that his far-right party, "Reconquête," is expected to receive between 5% and 6% of the votes.
