The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued the following statement today, Saturday: "As part of the continuous efforts by the Internal Security Forces to combat all types of crimes in various regions, information was received by the Nabatieh Judicial Unit regarding a wanted individual for crimes of theft, extortion, fraud, assault, and abuse in Nabatieh. After investigations conducted by the unit's personnel, it was revealed that he goes by the name: M. K. (born in 1977, Lebanese).
At 10:00 on December 29, 2023, one of the patrols arrested him in the Nabatieh market area. During questioning, it became evident that he was involved in several fraudulent operations, the most notable being that he deceived a woman into believing he was a "transaction follow-up agent" and "broker," claiming he could secure the release of her son, who was detained for murder and drug offenses, from Roumieh Prison. He obtained several financial payments from her through money transfer offices, as well as additional amounts directly in the Airport Road area, where he met her. The total amount he unlawfully obtained was approximately four thousand five hundred US dollars, after misleading her into believing he would deliver it to the deceased's family to drop their claims against her son.
Additionally, he was found in possession of a passport belonging to a Syrian woman. When contacted by the unit's personnel, it was confirmed she was in Syria and had sent him her passport after he convinced her that he was a "transaction follow-up agent" who could obtain a visa allowing her to enter Turkey, for which she paid him one thousand one hundred US dollars.
Therefore, based on the referral from the competent judiciary, the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces has circulated the arrested individual's photo and requests that anyone who has fallen victim to his actions contact the Nabatieh Judicial Unit at the number: 531226/07 to take the necessary legal actions."
