The Israeli Foreign Ministry stated today, Monday, that "the Israeli embassy in the Romanian capital Bucharest was targeted with a Molotov cocktail, while reports indicated that the suspect attempted to set himself on fire." The ministry revealed that "the incident did not result in any damage or injuries."
It mentioned that Romanian authorities arrested a suspect "who appears to be of Syrian origin." A Syrian refugee threw a Molotov cocktail at the Israeli Embassy in Romania towards the entrance door to the lobby of the building. Local security forces apprehended him before any damage or injuries could occur.
The Foreign Ministry clarified that "the suspect took out the Molotov cocktail, ignited it, and threw it while undergoing security checks." The police in Bucharest stated that the "34-year-old man was arrested by anti-terrorism officers working with the Romanian intelligence service before police arrived at the scene." They added that the suspect also attempted to set himself on fire.
