Egypt and Jordan have expressed their complete rejection and caution regarding the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of Israeli military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah. They emphasized that these operations deprive the people of Gaza of the main lifeline for the region, disrupt the safe passage for the injured and sick to receive treatment, and hinder the entry of humanitarian and relief aid, according to the Emirati News Agency (WAM).
This statement was made in a message issued by the Egyptian presidency following a meeting between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Jordanian Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Bisher Al-Khasawneh today.
During the meeting, the current situation in the Gaza Strip, which is in a critical phase, was discussed in light of the strenuous efforts to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire in the region and an exchange of prisoners and detainees. This aims to ensure the immediate and complete delivery of humanitarian aid sustainably and without obstacles, to mitigate the humanitarian tragedy faced by the residents of the sector.
The statement noted that the current conditions impose on the international community the responsibility to achieve an immediate and sustainable ceasefire, while moving forward seriously and effectively with the recognition of the independent Palestinian state with sovereignty on the borders of June 4, 1967, and its capital in East Jerusalem, in order to achieve justice, security, and regional stability, and to open avenues for development for all peoples of the region.
