In a recorded message, the U.S. Embassy in Beirut introduced Amanda Pilz, the new Deputy Chief of Mission. Her position ranks fifth in the Mediterranean region. Pilz spoke about her new responsibilities, including working to enhance the partnership between the United States and Lebanon. She noted that her team is helping through the U.S. Agency for International Development in collaboration with the Middle East Partnership Initiative and other programs to assist Lebanese people in finding employment. She continued, "We fund scholarships that support students to study in Lebanon or the United States." She concluded with a playful remark in broken Arabic: "I am excited to learn about Lebanese cuisine." She asked, "What's the best dish you have?"
