Deputy Nadim Gemayel responded to Deputy Gibran Bassil's campaign against the army commander, writing on the "X" platform: "What is the standard of loyalty for Gibran Bassil? An army commander appointed during his uncle's tenure must submit and implement his agenda, even at the expense of the nation's and institutions' interests?" He added: "When Michel Aoun collected donations for the army from businessmen and countries, he was serving the army, but when Joseph Aoun secures aid for the army publicly, he is considered a thief and a traitor? Today, we are in favor of postponing the retirement of the army commander appointed by President Michel Aoun (the Maronite), and we refuse to appoint any commander while there is a vacancy in the presidency."
