Weather experts predict that "the number of warm days will increase during the winter season in Russia, while its duration will shorten." In an interview with the TASS news agency, the scientific director of the Russian weather center, Roman Vilfand, said: "The melting of ice has noticeably increased in recent years, and it will continue to rise. Many people often ask whether winter will disappear. No, it will not disappear, but the duration of the winter season is decreasing, having already shortened by 10-14 days compared to the last century." According to him, these trends are linked to greenhouse gas emissions, and global plans to reduce them will not significantly change the situation in this century. He added, "Despite the existence of programs to achieve carbon neutrality, due to the effects that have already accumulated, temperatures will rise, albeit not as quickly as they could if no action were taken. Therefore, the melting of ice will increase, and we must get used to that."
