The "Ramadan Market" event organized by Dubai Municipality will kick off tomorrow and will continue until March 9. This event will be held on Old Municipal Street within the Grand Market in Deira, one of the oldest traditional markets frequented by Dubai residents for shopping and purchasing their needs, in addition to its commercial activities showcasing food products.
The "Ramadan Market" is considered one of the most prominent events and old heritage customs that celebrate the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan in the Emirate of Dubai. It aims to attract a wide range of community members, including citizens, residents, tourists, and visitors, to enjoy a unique shopping experience at competitive prices.
The event will feature a mini-market alongside the heritage market, which will contain all necessities for Ramadan preparations and products to celebrate the "Haq Al-Lailah" event. Additionally, there will be public services, live entertainment shows, and special activities for children.
Dubai Municipality places great emphasis on developing heritage sites and old markets in the emirate. It dedicates resources and capabilities to organize events, tourist activities, and commercial initiatives, enhancing their cultural and historical significance, while also supporting investors and encouraging investment in these areas. This is in line with their efforts to provide attractive and comprehensive facilities that make Dubai more appealing and of high quality for life, reinforcing its position as a global tourist destination.
Through the Ramadan Market, the municipality aims to promote traditional markets and their products in the emirate while preserving heritage and the authenticity of old customs associated with the preparations for the holy month.
Historically, the Deira markets are among the most important traditional commercial markets, dating back to the mid-1850s. They have been renovated, rehabilitated, and categorized. The Grand Market in Deira, known as the “Market of Darkness,” used to be a mixed market where various goods were sold. Additionally, there is the cookware market where people typically purchased kitchen supplies, as well as a men's fabric market, a variety goods market, a market for cushions and pillows, a food market, a maritime tools market, a fabric market, a perfume market, and a gold market.
It is noteworthy that Dubai Municipality organizes the Ramadan Market annually as part of its initiatives and efforts to host events supporting tourism and commercial activities in Dubai and to encourage investment and increase visitor engagement with public facilities.
