A team of doctors has raised the alarm about a mysterious illness resembling influenza and "COVID-19," which is putting individuals in critical condition in Argentina, according to reports. The International Public Health Surveillance system, ProMed, issued a warning on April 17 after 60 cases of the mysterious illness were reported in Buenos Aires. This is the same database that first alerted authorities about "COVID" in late 2019. The warning, issued anonymously "through a person known to ProMed," stated: "In the past thirty days, there appears to be an increase in severe atypical pneumonia requiring intensive care in Buenos Aires. The condition primarily affects young people without significant risk factors."
Despite no official statements from officials, reports indicate that patients require breathing assistance. Additionally, over one-third of those infected showed symptoms of psittacosis, a disease caused by a type of chlamydial infection found in birds. However, the warning noted that many of them do not have a clear history of contact with birds.
Psittacosis, also known as parrot fever, raises concerns due to its flu-like symptoms that can progress to pneumonia. It particularly affects the elderly or those with weakened immune systems, according to the "Daily Star." The alert also warned: "Though psittacosis seems to be the cause behind some cases, there may be more than one factor involved. ProMED would appreciate more information about these cases."
The "Daily Mail" also reported that experts are urging health officials not to take the situation lightly, despite assurances that "it is unlikely the cases pose a broader threat."
