Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian warned that if the "current situation and Israeli crimes continue, the escalation of the war and opening new fronts against the entity in the region is likely." He confirmed during his meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York that "Iran supports any political solution that leads to an immediate halt to crimes against humanity and genocide in Gaza, continuous humanitarian aid, and confronting the forced displacement of Gaza's inhabitants."
He added: "The silence of some countries and America's support for the brutal attack and genocide by the Israeli entity is an encouraging factor for this apartheid entity to intensify its attacks against civilians in Gaza and the West Bank." He emphasized the "necessity for immediate and decisive action by the international community and the United Nations, especially its Security Council, to fulfill their duties in supporting the resistance of the Palestinian people."
He noted that "the Islamic Republic of Iran has outlined among the fundamental principles of its foreign policy, continuous support for the liberation struggle of the Palestinian people and their resistance to achieve their full human rights." He asserted that "the most important message carried by the United Nations General Assembly resolution for the Palestinian people is the support for the oppressed and resistant Palestinian people, focusing on the issue they face, which is the need to reach a ceasefire for humanitarian reasons; humanitarian assistance should also be delivered to them."
Regarding the impact of the General Assembly's resolution and the UN Secretary-General's visit to the region on achieving an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Abdollahian expressed hope that "we will see a change in the near future as we proceed on this political initiative, but if the path of war is followed in the region, smoke will blind the eyes of war advocates."
