The United Coalition mentioned that "its lawyers were informed today of the decision by the first investigating judge in Beirut, Bilal Halawi, not to hear the lawsuit filed by lawyer Rami Aliq against Prime Minister Najib Mikati on April 7, 2022, registered under number 2022/59, for the crime of illicit enrichment and forming associations of malefactors, which has been claimed before French courts as discussed yesterday. This raises urgent questions about the true role of the Lebanese judiciary once again, which is effectively absent from achieving any hoped-for justice for the Lebanese people, who are being governed in their name, and who are suffering from the intensification of the worst crises of injustice since Lebanon's independence. Aliq intends to appeal the decision regarding the lack of standing based on the public prosecutor's assertion representing the 'public right' early next week, in accordance with the 'historic' decision of the Court of Cassation issued by President Suhair Al-Harb's chamber on September 15, 2021, which disregarded the 'Lebanese judiciary' while being accepted by foreign courts. This confirms the personal harmed status of the plaintiff in initiating the public lawsuit, based on one of Aliq's complaints against the former governor of the Central Bank, Riad Salameh, which is currently being pursued regarding the jurisdiction of European courts in Paris to recover the rights of depositors."
The coalition stated in a statement: "All this is far from any political consideration or exploitation against President Mikati or others, which constituted the main motive for some who obtained the details of the mentioned complaint from the coalition's lawyer under the pretext of cooperating in exposing corruption that later proved to be false."
The coalition added: "It is both amusing and tragic that Aliq was also informed today of his summons to a court session before the Beirut Criminal Court due to a lawsuit from the 'public right' for the crime of 'defamation and slander' against the Lebanese judiciary."
